THIS WEEK’S BOLD STEP DEVOTION

In my neighborhood, trash day comes every Monday. I have to admit that I look forward to it every week. It’s nice to get rid of our garbage and start fresh again. Once the garbage is on the curb, I walk away from it. It’s there for the taking. I would never guard the garbage I put out, because it is no longer important.

Conversely, the writer of Proverbs says that we must guard our hearts. Why? Our hearts are the wellspring of life, the most important part of us. If we fail to guard our hearts, debris such as unconfessed sin, unresolved conflict with others, and past hurts can develop roots of bitterness, resentment, and shame that crowd out God’s power.

Maybe it’s time for you to examine your heart. Just as a bodily heart check can find physical problems, a spiritual examination can reveal issues that are polluting your heart. Remember, the treasures of the heart are priceless but can be easily stolen.
